Infrastructure Resilience Planning Framework: Application to Regional Water & Wastewater Planning

An IRPF Case Study
Revision Date

Recognizing a need for in-depth assessment of risks to critical infrastructure within the region, the Green River Area Development District (GRADD) in northwestern Kentucky obtained a grant through FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program to perform planning activities focused on analysis of the region’s water and wastewater systems. Utilizing resources within CISA’s Infrastructure Resilience Planning Framework (IRPF), GRADD conducted interviews with each water and wastewater utility in the region to understand potential system vulnerabilities including critical nodes of operation, interconnects between systems, and reliance on services provided by other fundamental infrastructure sectors. GRADD then facilitated discussion with stakeholders to identify solutions to address priority risks and ensure continuity of water and wastewater services to residents, businesses, and industry throughout region.
